Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my Word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

When God speaks, He is not just offering some good advice or some interesting stories or moral corrections. His Word is good, instructive, interesting, moral, and correcting, but it is more than that. His Word is power! God speaks with purpose and his purposes never fail. His Word goes forth and it does not fail to succeed in accomplishing the will of God - mainly, his glory and our good.

While we might not always be totally engaged or enthralled with what we are reading in the Bible day after day, we are still engaging a unique and powerful book. Other books may capture your attention and stir your emotions, but they fall desperately short of the promise of the Word of God.

Take heart in your reading! It is worth the effort and there is not a wasted moment that is spent in the Word. The Word of God does not just tell us about God's power and purpose. It is God's power to accomplish his purpose. That is the promise of the Word to those who recieve it by faith.

5X5X5 Plan - Acts 24. Paul is in prison pleading his case before Ceasar and Agrippa.

Table Talk Plan - Numbers 14-15, Mark 6. Moses is interceding for the people of Israel, pleading that God would be faithful to his promise of mercy for the sake of his own glory. In Mark, you are reading about the mighty miracles of Jesus - Feeding the 5,000 and walking on water.
